Danny and Korin Watson The West Carroll Recreation Council nominates Danny and Korin Watson as their 2025 Volunteer of the Year. The Watson family have been active with the West Carroll Marauders Rugby program for years. Danny first got involved as a volunteer coach in the summer touch program. As his children grew older, Danny attended classes to become certified tackle rugby coach despite not having any experience playing the sport himself. He is currently a Level 300 USA Rugby certified coach and will be our boys High School coach this season. Korin was an active parent supporter for years and joined the Marauders Board in 2022 as the Youth Program representative. Danny and Korin took the reigns from Tally and Eric Myers who had run the summer program successfully for years. Recruiting, fundraising, scheduling, field preparation and coordinating the all-important post-game socials are among the countless tasks the Watsons take on for our program. Korin has also created our parent handbooks and is leading the way in creating a formal pathway for our players and families. The pathway will track athletes from the youth program through our MS and HS sides and educate them on opportunities for growth through the sport of rugby in college and beyond. This past season has been especially challenging as Danny has spent most of the year in Virginia for work- attending many meetings over zoom and racing back to make practices and games. Danny and Korin, along with their children- Grant, Eli, and Rowan- are the backbone of the Marauders organization and a driving force in the growth of rugby in our community. |
