Westminster, MD, Thursday, October 30, 2025 - Carroll County proudly announces its participation in The National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers (NACVSO) Operation Green Light. The week leading up to the Veterans Day Holiday, November 4 through November 11, the main County Office Building at 225 N. Center Street in Westminster will be illuminated green in support of veterans. 

The lighting raises awareness of the challenges faced by many veterans and the resources that are available to them and their families at the county, state, and federal level.  In recognition of Operation Green light, veterans and their loved ones, The Carroll County Board of Commissioners read a proclamation for the initiative during Open Session today.

“Our military service members and their families have made significant sacrifices for our country’s safety,” said board president Kenny Kiler. “Carroll County is dedicated to supporting veterans and ensuring they know their service is valued. It’s our responsibility to serve them in return through county programs and community support.”

In addition to lighting county buildings, residents and businesses are encouraged to participate by simply changing one light bulb in their house to a green bulb. This can be an exterior light that neighbors and passersby see, or an interior light that sparks a conversation with friends.

By shining a green light, veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported. While this event is focused around the week of Veterans Day, participants are encouraged to continue shining the light year-round. Residents can share their participation on social media using the hashtag #OperationGreenLight.
