Westminster, MD, Monday, September 15, 2025 – Hazardous Waste Collection event on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 8 a.m. – noon. The event will take place at the Carroll County Vehicle Maintenance Facility, 1250 Old Meadow Branch Road in Westminster.

Carroll County residents can drop off household items that are corrosive, toxic, flammable, or reactive, as well as medications and sharps, for safe disposal. Residents can also shred a maximum of three (3) banker’s boxes (approx. 24”x15”x10”) or bags (or equivalent volume) of sensitive papers. Document shredding is available until the truck is full.

Examples of accepted household hazardous items include gas/gas oil mix, lighter fluid, oil-based: paints, stains, sealants, and varnishes, brake and steering fluid, engine cleaner, degreaser, paint thinners, solvents, and mineral spirits, bleach, ammonia, oven cleaners, drain openers, acetone, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, photographic chemicals, pool/hot tub chemicals, CFLs and fluorescent tubes, household use Nickel-Cadmium, NIMH,

“Button” batteries, lithium, and Lithium-Ion batteries, Mercury switches and thermometers, vape liquids in consumer containers, and electronic smoking device batteries.

Items not allowed include latex paint and water-based stains and sealants, (dispose with household trash after hardened or solidified with an absorbent agent such as cat litter), alkaline batteries, explosives, ammunition, fireworks, medical and biohazard waste, radioactive material, compressed gas tanks and cylinders, asbestos, items from commercial and industrial businesses or farms, vehicle batteries, motor oil, and antifreeze. Vehicle batteries, motor oil, and antifreeze are accepted year-round at the Northern Landfill Recycling Center, 1400 Baltimore Boulevard, Westminster, during normal business hours.
