Carroll County Government Honored with Special Achievement in GIS Award
Westminster, MD, Monday, August 5, 2024 - Esri, the global leader in location intelligence, presented Carroll County Government with the Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award on July 17, 2024, at the annual Esri User Conference (Esri UC). Carroll County Government received the award for its innovative use of mapping and analytics software, as well as leadership in the field of Technology Services.
Carroll County Government staff was recognized for their achievement in the ESRI Roadmap Workshop program which helped identify needs within the Department of Technology Services. Solutions were implemented for programs including the Homelessness Point-in-Time Count, and the Map of Carroll County Broadband to identify underserved areas within the county. “It has been an honor to be recognized by ESRI and bestowed the SAG Award for all of our outstanding work and achievements,” said Farrah Solomon, Enterprise GIS Analyst, Department of Technology Services.
In 2024, Esri is celebrating its 55th year. Since its inception in 1998, the SAG Award is intended to demonstrate an appreciation for organizations that are using geographic information system (GIS) technology to reveal patterns and trends from data to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
"Users around the world are applying GIS in countless fields to take a geographic approach toward solving complex problems and global issues," said Esri president Jack Dangermond.
Carroll County is working on expanding its technology throughout all its departments to meet the needs of our citizens. This includes leveraging GIS technology to support the county’s technological advancements in enhancing services for the public. "I’m proud of the efforts by staff throughout our organization who are leveraging GIS technology to help deliver services to our community,” said Tom Dowd, GIS Division Manager. “It’s rewarding to be recognized by Esri for the work that is being done within Carroll County Government.
