"What is the purpose of the Landscape Code?"
The purpose is the aesthetic and environmental enhancement of new development.
"Will the Landscape Code apply to my project?"
If your project is a major subdivision or site development plan, the Landscape Code will apply.
"What constitutes a planting unit?"
A planting unit is a way to quantify vegetation and can be any one of the following:
- 1 major tree (a deciduous tree with a mature height of 30 feet or greater)
- 2 minor trees (a deciduous tree with a mature height less than 30 feet)
- 2 evergreen trees
- 5 shrubs
Deciduous:(of a tree or shrub) shedding its leaves annually.
"My neighbor is removing landscaping. Is this permitted?"
Landscaping installed in accordance with a County approved landscape plan, must be maintained in good condition in perpetuity. Removal of required landscaping is a violation. If you contact the Carroll County Bureau of Resource Management and provide an address for the property involved, staff can check to see if there is an approved landscape plan associated with the property.
