Carroll County Offering FREE VIRTUAL Workshop for Those Living with Chronic Pain
Westminster, MD, Thursday, April 13, 2023 – Beginning April 17th , the Carroll County Bureau of Aging & Disabilities (BOAD) will offer free virtual workshops for Living Healthy, Living Well with Chronic Pain.
Chronic Pain Self-Management is a series of workshops for adults of all ages who are living with pain every day, or who live with someone that does. Originally developed at Stanford University, the Living Healthy, Living Well workshops are part of an evidence-based self-management program that has proven effective in helping attendees manage their chronic pain. The program has proven health benefits and complements the pain and medical management services people receive from providers. Workshops consist of six sessions, held virtually on Mondays beginning April 17, 2023 from 9:00am to 11:30am.
Living Healthy, Living Well workshops offer a hands-on opportunity to enhance skills in maintaining active and fulfilling lifestyles by improving problem-solving and decision-making, as well as addressing the challenges of living with chronic pain. This program covers both the physical aspect of managing chronic pain as well as the emotional. In addition, information is provided about what drugs can and cannot do in alleviating pain. The program also assists participants in understanding that pain is interpreted by the brain and how efforts to reinterpret the pain can be helpful. This workshop includes the Moving Easy Program (MEP), which is a gentle flexibility program designed to safely loosen muscles and joints and increase circulation. Participants create weekly action plans, share experiences, and help each other solve problems in creating and implementing their personal self-management program.
BOAD is pleased to offer this program virtually, at no cost to the public. If the lack of technology prevents interested participants from participating in online BOAD and senior center programs, please contact Erica Starr at 410-386-3800 to learn more.
