County Seeks Candidates for Police Trial Board
Westminster, MD, Tuesday, January 17, 2023 – The Carroll County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates to serve on the county’s Police Trial Board. Applications will be accepted through Tuesday, January 31, 2023.
The Police Trial Board adjudicates matters for which a police officer or deputy is subject to discipline. The board meets when a disciplinary action by a police chief or the Sheriff is appealed by an officer. The position is a two-year term which can be renewed for an additional two years.
Specifically, the commissioners are seeking two members to serve on this board. First, an actively serving or retired administrative law judge or retired judge of the circuit or district court, and secondly, a qualified civilian. The commissioners will select the retired judge and the civilian will be appointed by the Police Accountability Board. To qualify for the civilian position, applicants must live in Carroll County, be at least 18 years of age, and may not be a member of the county’s Administrative Charging Committee. Successful applicants must attend a one week in-person training session conducted by the State Police Training and Standards Commission prior to service.
